At the crack of dawn I woke up to head on down to the Manitoba Marathon. It is held every fathers day doing loop in the city starting and ending at the University of Manitoba. It is really great because there is something for everyone, as well as the full and half marathons there are walks, super runs, relays, wheel chair activities and children's run (called Mini Mites). What is extra great about the Manitoba Marathon is its charitable initiatives. They raise money for Manitoban's living with intellectual disabilities. As well they are very enviormentally concerned, almost everything is compostable or recyclable, they even use all biodegradable disposable dishes.
My day started out with my mom handing out Great-West Life hats to all the people in the Super Run. Once I had finished with that I got to start the Mini Mites, it was so cute seeing all the toddlers waddle to the finish line.
Once I finished the Mini Mites I headed over to the finish line to shadow the wheelchair marathoners. My job was to be waiting when the winners cam through and than take care of them until the award ceremony. One of the days most special moments was when I got to give my dad his medal when he finished the Half Marathon, what a great fathers day moment.
